Big Citizen Science Data
Public participation in scientific research is a growing trend, especially in natural resource management. Seeking people feedbacks, incorportating community leaders in decision process, and finally using citizens to gather in-situ data. Volunteers benefit from opportunities for informal education, while contributing to outreach efforts that promote public understanding of scientific issues. With the advance of machine learning and image understanding techniques, even simple visual data (smartphone’s picture) can provide valuable information to scientists.
Virtual Reality for data representation
we developed a framework that projects 2D maps into an immersive, virtual, interactive environment. This way, we can translate any scenario outputs from a scientific report into a clear, understandable, and virtual experience. For climate change communication, informing citizens of the benefits of rising a sea-wall, or of the risk of living in some areas, it has many applications to empower all citizens and include the ones who are traditionally excluded from institutionalized top-down decisions.
